the sun, almost having fully risen on the Matterhorn in Zermatt, Switzerland
i took this shot when i was in Switzerland this past July. it took me two days of getting up at 5am to get this shot. the first day i woke up and looked out the window of my hotel - the sky was clear, so i got my gear and walked to this bridge in town where there's a great view of the mountain, but by the time i got there, clouds had rolled in. the following morning, the clouds stayed away and after arriving at the bridge, i was joined by many japanese who were already dressed in business casual attire for the day. try and picture a very large group of japanese, dressed business casual - and then me, in my pajamas with a baseball cap and a fleece. i stayed there until 6:30am, photographing the entire sunrise, both on film and digitally. i do remember that this particular shot was taken handheld with a 300mm lens.
when i got back to my hotel, i was pretty cold.

@Josh: hey josh, glad you like... a curiously shaped mountain indeed!
It's a lovely shot. Good colour saturation. It's so worth getting out of bed early for a top shot like this!

@Vicki: indeed it was worth getting out of bed early for this. you should see the entire series, starting from when the sun just barely touches the tip of the summit... it's really something. the good color saturation is due to the film i used - fuji velvia. try it out!
Wow, that indeed is quite spectacular!
